Thant tells his story...
“In Burma I was working as a university teacher of mathematics. In the year of 1996 the university was closed so I came to Mae Sot (Thailand) in 1997 to find work. When I first arrived, I found it very difficult, I had no where to live and no belongings. I shared a room with 10 other refugees from Burma. I slept on a cardboard box with only a towel for a blanket. I lived like this for 6 months. Because of this experience, I know how it feels for the refugees coming across the border today and for this reason, I help them by providing a place to stay and food to eat.
My mother died when I was 7 years old and I never knew my father. When my mother died, I went to an orphanage school and stayed there for 7 years. Because of my time in the orphanage, I understand the hearts of the orphans and want to help them as much as I can. This is the reason I became involved
in the migrant worker's children's schools.
I believe that you if you sow kindness you will receive kindness. This has been shown to me time and time again with many things given to me, as I have given to others.
We are always in need for volunteers in Mae Sot. Please encourage those you come in contact with to come here to help the Migrant worker's children's schools. I would love to show you around Mae Sot if you ever have the chance to come here. Send me an email if you would like to know more.
Thank you for your kindness.”
